MY MISSION
Parental Empowerment
As a Peoria Unified School District (PUSD) board member I will advocate for parental rights as it applies to each individual student. I believe the parent or grandparent knows their child best. I want parents to feel as if they are being heard when concerns arise. I will work to decrease response time from the PUSD board for parental concerns while promoting transparency. I am committed to making collaborative decisions by listening to stakeholders and parents first. Parents need to be heard.
Academic Excellence
I approach problem-solving head-on, carefully considering the constituents as a whole. I am committed to being a voice for students, parents, and teachers. One of my top areas of importance will continue to be the student. We have an obligation to the next generation to stay focused on educating students. We must provide an accurate curriculum within a safe setting for students, to enrich the education process, and to prepare them for a successful future. I am committed to our students receiving a quality education.
I will encourage excellence in academics by supporting the development of curriculum, and the use of Peoria Unified School District (PUSD) resources toward critical, up to date, training in the support of teachers. From experience, I am aware that for a student to be successful it takes a collaborative effort between parents and teachers. I support directing school resources toward academic enrichment, to teach academics, and prepare our students for a more competitive career and future.
Teacher Support
During nine years of employment in PUSD, I witnessed teachers and parents struggling to be heard. I will support the engagement of teachers, students, extended family, and in some cases, the community. Studies have proven it is invaluable to have parental support for teachers
therefore, I will prioritize effective ways of repairing the relationship and rebuilding trust between parents and teachers. I will prioritize and encourage a platform for teachers and parents to know they are heard. My goal will be to increase quality academic trainings for PUSD teachers. I am devoted to being an advocate for better pay and rewarding excellent teaching.
Special Education Fidelity
As a board member, I support fidelity within all facets of special education within the PUSD. Over the past ten years, I have seen our special education programs go through significant changes. I have listened to numerous parents, teachers and community members' concerns regarding our special needs students not receiving services within their Individual Education Plans (IEP). I will advocate for ways to ensure every student who is on an IEP are held to a standard of fidelity. I will brainstorm ways we can adhere to the needs of every student and staff member within the special education department.
District Transparency
I believe the most qualified leaders listen first and lead by example. As a board member, I will warrant district and board transparency by developing an accountability format. It will consist of data driven decision making, modeling, goal setting, and measurable outcomes. In order to build trust within the PUSD community, I will work diligently to form partnerships with stakeholders and our PUSD family. I am honored to be a part of the PUSD family and look forward to serving you.
